There are very hard times ahead for Tesla and its cars, as a relative newcomer to the market, Polestar, is positioning itself for the launch of the 2, one of the biggest – if not the biggest – competitor for the Model 3.
Shortly after at the beginning of the month the carmaker announced the pricing in Europe for the EV, now come the details about its first performance package.

It’s worth noting that from the get-go the Polestar 2 comes with impressive performance figures. Using a powertrain that comprises one electric motor on each axle and a 78 kWh battery pack, the car develops 408 hp and can keep going for up to 500 km (310 miles).

The driving experience in a Polestar 2 can be entirely different though when the car is fitted with a suite of hardware the company calls Performance Pack. It includes 4-piston Brembo front brakes, adjustable Öhlins dampers, and large, 20-inch forged alloy wheels.

That may not seem like much, but these tiny modifications are meant bring the driving dynamics to a whole new level, says the car's chassis development manager, Joakim Rydholm.

“We spent a lot of time obsessing over the finest details of the Performance Pack chassis set-up to find the car’s sweet spot; we call it the Golden Ride,” he said.

“Comfortable but focussed, we want you to feel positively connected to the road, the car alive and communicative, but balanced and predictable. It really is unlike most electric cars. It feels Polestar.”

Going for these three extras will set buyers of the Polestar 2 back a decent amount. In Germany, for instance, where the car sells for €58,800, the Performance Pack adds an extra €6,000.

For now, the company did not officially announce the price for the car on the American market but did confirm it will be in the $63,000 range, without the above package.
