To be manufactured in China at a state-of-the-art facility from February 2020, the Polestar 2 is the first-ever EV from the Swedish marque. Underpinned by Volvo’s compact modular architecture, the fastback sedan is now available to configure in several markets with increasing demand for electric vehicles.
We already know how much the Launch Edition costs in every single one of those markets, but the configurator gives us a better understanding of how customizable the car is. Dual-motor AWD and a 78-kWh battery come standard along with a panoramic sunroof and comfort creatures such as USB-C ports. 4.7 seconds to 100 km/h (62 mph) is also impressive, but the exterior color palette leaves much to be desired.
Customers are treated to six colors in total, starting with Snow because the Swedes certainly like their snow. Magnesium, Thunder, Moon, Midnight, and the eerily-sounding Void complete the list, which brings us to the interior color options. Only three two-tone combinations are available, and the standout material is the ventilated Nappa leather upholstery.
Three wheel choices ranging from 19 to 20 inches are complemented by three packages, of which the Pilot comes standard with a lot of driver-assist features while the Plus adds plenty of convenience. The Performance Package is the one that stands out thanks to Ohlins dampers, Brembo brake calipers and discs for both ends of the car, the Y-Spoke forged wheels, Swedish gold seat belts for every occupant, and gold valve caps.
The estimated delivery date for German customers is May 2020 while the Brits will have to wait until July 2020 for their right-hand-drive models. In other words, it’ll be a long wait...
Polestar targets 500 kilometers of WLTP range from the 2, translating to 275 miles in the United States in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s standards. The combined output of 300 kilowatts is a testament that performance hasn’t been ignored when developing the car, which targets the people who are in the market for the Tesla Model 3.
