Polaris is making the news again with another recall for the Slingshot in Canada. Actually, it’s a 3-in-1 recall as the popular machine is plagued by more than one issue.
Transport Canada recently announced three recalls for the Polaris Slingshot machines built in the past two years. The 2015-2017 models are recalled for bad fuel line routing and swingarm design, while the 2016 Slingshots are specifically recalled for brake pedal problems.
There are 1,373 Slingshots from model years 2015-2016 that are affected by the bad fuel lines. According to Transport Canada, the way they are fixed isn’t giving enough clearance between them and the hood structure. Combine this with a hot engine bay and vibrations, and you can imagine how easy these lines can get damaged and ignite a fire.
Moving on, certain 2015-2016 Polaris Slingshots (1,372 affected units) may come with swingarms that have not been manufactured properly and don’t meet the required strength specifications. To put it into more familiar words, if you hit a pothole (which is hard not to do in a three-wheeler) hard enough, the swingarm might break, and you could crash.
Last but not least, the brake pressure switch on some 2016 models (356 units) may have been over-torqued during the assembly phase. This could affect the brake seal over time, and it might start leaking, increasing the amount of brake pedal travel and reducing the stopping power.
Owners will be contacted by Polaris and instructed to take their Slingshots to a dealership where technicians will replace the faulty parts as well as re-route the misplaced fuel lines free of charge.
