Polaris’ industrial success is returning solid profit and this fuel the brand’s expansion. The most recent news form Polaris indicates that an agreement was reached with HH Investment Limited for the acquisition of Chinese off-road manufacturer Hammerhead. Hammerhead is currently producing gas-powered go-karts, light utility vehicles, and electric utility vehicles and are better known for their go-kart buggies.
Hammerhead’s main production facility in China is in the Shanghai region, and is actually close to Polaris’ local subsidiary, making the acquisition even more lucrative. Polaris’ goal is to use Hammerhead’s products to expand the offer and the off-road vehicle line-up with new models addressing different types of customers in different markets.

With the low-cost products Hammerhead delivers, Polaris will be able to deliver vehicles in more emerging markets where affordable prices are one of the major selling points. CEO Scott Wine is quite confident in the new opportunities having Hammerhead under the Polaris umbrella: “Hammerhead provides Polaris with a unique opportunity to expand both our international manufacturing footprint and our armada of off-road products.

We are impressed by the entrepreneurial spirit and passion for innovation of the Hammerhead team, and look forward to pursuing new customers in new markets with their high-quality and low-cost off-road vehicles. We are excited to establish Polaris’ operational footprint in China and believe the opportunities for further international growth are significant,”
Wine adds.

Hammerhead maintains brand and leadership structure

Hammerhead will retain its identity and market and sell its products under the same brand name. At the same time, it will also remain a standalone entity with its own leadership and basically continue to operate as before. The liaisons with the North American market are also helped by the operation Hammerhead which currently runs in Texas, just north of Dallas.

Hammerhead is the second company Polaris buys this year, with the first major acquisition being the motorcycle division of electric vehicle manufacturer Brammo. It will be interesting to see what’s next on Polaris’ shopping list this year…
