PlyFly Wooden Kart Is Good For 25 MPH, Assembles In a Few Hours

If Ikea built karts, we’re pretty sure their idea of a fast gas-powered wooden vehicle would look pretty much like a closet on wheels. But luckily, they’re stuck with furniture so others can come up with awesome ideas like the PlyFly go-kart.

FlatWorks is a company focused on designing and building kits “that allow you to accomplish amazing builds in a short time”. Most recently, their creative minds came up with the PlyFly GoKart which went on Kickstarter in February. And it has fun written all over it.

You can have the go-kart in two versions: one that ‘packs’ 2.5 HP and a more powerful one, rated at 4 HP, both powered by a four-stroke Honda clone engine assembled in China - they also meet US emissions requirements for that matter.

The karts only weigh 56 kg (125 lb) which means the less powered 2.5 HP version can hit a top speed of 27 km/h (17 mph) while its more potent peer can reach as much as 40 km/h (25 mph). There’s a smartphone mount that enables the driver to capture the moments of joy triggered by the go-kart while the adjustable seat should provide a decent amount of comfort, although nobody cares about that.

Even though 4 HP might not seem that much, you still have to stop the go-kart now and then, or at least slow down when required. That’s why both versions come with a disc brake system and non-pneumatic tires filled with a special foam.

Before you start smashing your piggy bank, we should mention that you’ll need some building skills and tool proficiency to enjoy the go-karts. Each one is shipped in three boxes and assembly can last up to five hours - or even more, depending on your carpentry abilities.

We just hope the company will take the PlyFly Go-Kart into mass production, because we already want it sooo, sooo bad.
