The new car might be released with the mild facelift the 3 Series in bound to get in a few years, marking the first such model in the 6 generations of excellence from the most popular model in BMW’s line-up.

However, it will be drastically different from the ActiveHybrid3 offering, not just because it will be rechargeable using a wall socket. It will also use a different engine and electric motor than the AH3.

Our guess is that it will have either a 2-liter turbocharged petrol engine under the bonnet or a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder unit, combined with an electric motor making 93 HP derived directly from the i3, in a similar fashion as the X5 eDrive concept.
