To understand the proportions of the video you’re about to watch you need to learn a little about the heavy trucks they used for the stunt. Put it this way, building an actual golf course regularly takes a couple of years, whereas for this one it only took about three days. They may have invited two members of the Ladies Professional Golfers’ Association, but hitting the hole sure wasn’t easy.
So here’s what happens. Called the “Driving Range,” the latest short film released by Caterpillar is part of a bigger marketing campaign currently ongoing. Twin sisters Erimo and Marimo Ikeuchi took their best shots at this one-of-a-kind course, built at the Caterpillar Tinaja Hills Demonstration & Learning Center near Tucson, Arizona.
The company had five huge machines creating the fairway, the hazards and the green, thus turning two heavy trucks into a moving golf course. Just to make sure you guys understand the magnitude, we’ll remind you we’re looking at some of the world’s largest mining and construction equipment on the planet. These monsters play around with huge chunks of rocks like kids play with sand at the beach.
Take the Cat 793F truck, a big guy that is capable of carrying 250-ton of payload through and it does it just like a walk in the park considering it's packing an impressive 2,550 horsepower engine. And that is just one example since we know there are a lot of others that look like they’re ready for lunar mining.
We’re not saying the trucks themselves are not impressive, but we have to say, seeing golf getting reinvented that way clearly makes you want to like the sport more.
