Planning a Road Trip to South America? You Could Rent La Chanchita

Back when you were a child traveling the school bus with your High School mates, did you ever imagined something would suddenly change and the driver took everybody on a road trip? It turns out now you can do exactly that. La Chanchita is the creation of a couple from Argentina who restored and converted a 1966 Mercedes-Benz school bus into a spacious trailer. Good part is you can rent it to go on a South American road trip.

From the outside it almost looks a bit creepy if not extremely simple, but once you step in, it turns out to be the perfect classic camper of some sort. It fits up to five travelers, as it offers everything from sleeping accommodations, water facilities, electricity, a small kitchen and even heating through a wood stove.

And it’s not only about utility. The wood-finished interior makes La Chanchita almost a bit bohemian, it’s like you travel with a romantic tree house on wheels. Call that a big surprise your girlfriend would definitely appreciate...

It's used both as transportation and accommodation

But why would you need a camper when you have hotels and such to your disposal? Well, here goes its creators’ explanations: “As opposed to Europe or North America, transportation is not always well organized and some stations offer no tourist accommodation or transport service. That is why we decided to convert a 1966 Mercedes-Benz school bus into a comfortable motorhome.

In case you’re wondering, all trips start from San Carlos de Bariloche, Patagonia, Argentina and services include pick up at the airport or bus station in San Carlos de Bariloche. As to the fees, you’re going to have to contact the folks to find out.
