Plane Crashes into Ford, No One Was Killed

Five people miraculously survived after a two-seater aircraft lost control and crashed into a Ford pick-up truck, shortly after from a South African airport, near Johannesburg. No, this is not a movie scenario, but an accident that could have become a tragedy if a passerby hadn't stopped to help.

The Piper Cherokee plane hit head-on, damaging the front end of the Ford pick-up truck, and then burst into flames, The Times reported via Jalopnik. The rear passenger inside the Ford was thrown out of the vehicle, but was not injured. The other two were under shock, thinking their end is near.

“We saw the plane coming down, I honestly didn’t think it would crash and it would pull up. When it hit the ground, I just closed my eyes and kept my foot on the brakes and braced myself. We pretty much saw it coming," said the Ford driver, Monica Braganca.

The pilot and his passenger were trapped inside the burning aircraft. Luckily, a passerby who witnessed the incident, risked his life to save the two. Helped by a few other men, the 25-year-old rescuer, managed to pull the pilot and the co-pilot from the burning cockpit.

“It is unbelievable what they did; they were brave enough to get those guys out of the plane and then not to panic. I take my hat off to him and to all of the guys who helped,” said Anna Vaulina, one of the passengers from the truck.

Both Braganca and Vaulina were unharmed but treated for shock after the incident. The pilot, John Thompson, and his passenger, George Carney, are still in intensive care, but in a stable condition.

The details about the causes of the crash remain under the question mark, at least until one of the two recovers. Until then, the Civil Aviation Authority is expected to begin an investigation to determine what really happened.
