Firefighters in Bakersfield, California, once again came to the rescue today. For a puppy’s rescue, that is. It happened last weekend when they had to use vegetable oil to ease a dog’s head out of the hole of a spare wheel. The owner had to take the wheel with the stuck puppy in it to a Kern Country fire station.
Remember those cartoons where you’d have the firefighters climb the tree to save the stranded kitten? Well, that suddenly got old fashion, it’s all about saving cute puppies now. And the guys in Bakersfield are famous for saving little dogs.

The latest rescue happened last Friday, when the owner of a blue-and-red-nosed pit bull puppy named Junior came by, having the dog somehow stuck in a spare wheel. He said the little guy was playing with the other seven puppies on the porch when suddenly he got his head through the hub of an automobile wheel.

Two firefighters used vegetable oil to ease the dog’s head out of the hole. However, this “mission” is not their only one. In fact, according to Wfmynews, in April 2012 they’ve rescued a six-week old puppy from a 2,5 inch (3,81 cm) hole of a tractor part. They also helped getting another puppy out of a trapped pipe, earlier this year. But most of the people in the neighbourhood know the firefighters for saving four dogs from a house fire in January 2012.
