Pirelli will remain the official tire supplier of Formula One until 2018, after signing a five-year deal with the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).
Even though the information hasn’t been officially confirmed, with FIA only saying “Pirelli may continue to supply tires (...) subject to the requisite technical and safety standards of the FIA being met”, Pit Pass reports that the deal will last through 2018, which means five more seasons.
Pirelli has been providing tires for Formula One since 2010, when Bridgestone decided to withdraw as sole supplier. Pirelli previously supplied a number of Formula One teams with track rubber in 1950–1958, 1981–1986 and 1989–1991.
In related news, FIA released the 2014 Formula One calendar last week. The upcoming season will include 22 races, given all are approved, and will travel to new locations such as New Jersey, Austria, Mexico and Russia.
