Pirelli Predicts Nothing for Canadian GP

Planning to bring to the Canadian Grand Prix the same mixture of tires it use on the Monaco circuit last weekend, tire manufacturer Pirelli is reserved when it comes to trying to predict how the tires will behave on Canadian race track and road tarmac.

Paul Hembery, Pirelli's motorsports head told Autosport however that it is likely the degradation of the compound will not be as severe as some might think. The soft and super soft rubbers for the Canadian race are meant to provide the cars with enough grip, but at the same time they might steal a bit of the spectacle enthusiasts are waiting for, especially after the Monaco GP and especially because this is the first time Pirelli tires will be used in Formula 1 in Canada.

The super soft tires, which entered Formula 1 in Monaco, have been received well by the drivers and teams, who expressed their satisfaction with the solution chosen. For Pirelli, Monaco was one of the most intriguing races.

"I have to say it was intriguing for us here to sit back and see," Hembery told Autosport. "Probably the most intriguing race so far. Probably not the most exciting in terms of overtaking on circuit, which was Shanghai, but in terms of strategy it was absolutely fascinating because the other element with pitstops was they were trying to play on position.”

"We had tremendous comments back. The British public have been very complimentary, but people didn't like the red flag and the change of tyres. That is the one thing that with my fans' hat on is one thing we come back and say 'huh?'"
