Spain sees its first lawsuit condemning a tire manufacturer to pay hospital bills and bike repairs, after a court in Manresa ruled the plaintiff's demands rightful.
The guy whose initials are JBR had installed Pirelli tires (the source did not specify the exact model) on his bike just 15 days prior to the accident. He claimed that a defective tire was the main cause of him crashing and having to be hospitalized.
JBR and his lawyers asked for €31,935 ($42,640), out of which €28,557 ($38,130) in injury compensation and the rest for repairs. Pirelli opposed the allegations claiming that improper tire use was the cause of the accident, but the experts' reports prevailed, leading the judge to order €10,282 ($13,728) in damages and €2,272 ($3,033) for bike repairs.
This ruling creates jurisprudence, as it it the first time when a tire manufacturer is ordered to pay compensation for the damages caused by a faulty tire.
