Piquet to Launch Legal Case against Briatore

Although Renault and Flavio Briatore have begun legal proceedings against the Piquets for their presumable attempt to blackmail them into keeping Nelson Piquet Jr. at Enstone, the triple Formula One champion announced he has every intent to fire back. And the latest happenings in the crash-gate have worked in favor of the Brazilian family, with Renault practically admitting to their wrongdoings two days ago.

The French manufacturer said, via an official statement, that they will not dispute the FIA charges of race fixing for the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, while also sacking – although it was later announced that this was, in fact, a resignation – team boss Flavio Briatore and head of engineering Pat Symonds.

Under the circumstances, the media were led to believe Briatore proceeded in leaving the Enstone based team because of guilt. And that was immediately sanctioned by Piquet Sr., who revealed he'll launch some legal actions of his own against Briatore if the FIA finds him guilty of race fixing.

If the FIA World Council confirms the case, I will have a hold for going to court,” Piquet was quoted as saying to Germany's Auto Motor und Sport.

"Piquet's son Nelson Piquet Jr, despite being ousted by Briatore after July's Hungarian grand prix, remains under management contract to the Italian's company FFBB. The contract ensures that a percentage of Piquet's earnings for years to come will go to 59-year-old Briatore," said a report from the GMM news agency.

Talking about Briatore's criminal case against him, Piquet insisted that he's more than confident he'll win it, especially since the Italian boss has partially been proven guilty for his crimes.

And about what does he (Briatore) actually want to complain? About the truth? After a certain point people like Flavio get so much power that they believe they can walk on water. Despite the clear evidence he actually assumed nothing could happen to him,” added the Brazilian.

F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone revealed, a few days ago, that Piquet Sr. promised him he'll keep fighting Briatore until the Italian boss will be “destroyed”.
