Piquet Expelled from F1 Says Brazilian Source

As we reported earlier last week, news of Nelsinho Piquet's imminent departure from Renault F1 were filling the sports media world-wide. The latest source to make such claims comes from the F1 driver's own country.

According to a Brazilian television network called SporTV, the 23-year-old will not even compete in the forthcoming Hungarian Grand Prix. The replacement named by the TV station is the current reserve driver from Renault F1, Romain Grosjean. The source continued stating that Piquet hasn't scored a single point this season and revealed that his contract required him to score at least 40% of the points earned by his teammate Alonso by mid-season.

Things don't look very good for Nelsinho Piquet, who lost support even in his own country. An official statement regarding the Brazilian driver's fate was constantly dodged by the Renault F1 team which remained silent once more. The same Brazilian source mentioned that Lucas di Grassi will take over as test driver for the French team in Grosjean's place.

German source Auto Motor und Sport thinks the decision concerning Piquet's future in Formula One has been left to Renault's F1 engineers. French sports publication L'Equipe believes the team is free to expel Nelsinho at their own will.

With little hope in sight left for the 23-year-old Brazilian driver, his chances of running in Hungary with the new modifications Alonso had on his car in Germany and earn his first points for the season seem to have completely faded.
