The oldest motoring event in the world, the annual London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, is preparing for its 2012 edition, which will be held by The Royal Automobile Club on Sunday, November 4th.
The organizers today announced that the driver line-up will include a name that is not only a VIP, but also a veteran of the race. We are talking about Nick Mason, the drummer of the legendary rock band Pink Floyd.
Mason has taken part in the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run every year since 1985 and has only failed to cross the finish line on two occasions. The drummer will be driving a Panhart powered by a 5-liter engine, one of the 40 special cars in Mason’s collections, which also includes vehicles such as a a McLaren F1 GTR, a Bugatti Type 35, a Birdcage Maserati and a Ferrari 250 GTO.
"Big-engined cars from this era are not that common, and the great thing about the Panhard’s 5-litre engine is that the car can tackle a steep hill even when loaded to the gunwales with friends, family and mechanics," Mason said.
