For years, the name Pininfarina has been associated with incredible car design, but until earlier in 2019 the Italians had no car to call their own. That changed when the “solely Pininfarina-badged car,” the Battista, was unveiled.
Initially believed to be just a show of force from one of the world’s most prominent car designers, it was now revealed the Battista is just one of many other Pininfarina-badged cars to be launched in the coming years.

On the eve of the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show, the company announced major plans for the future, centered around a series of “major investments and initiatives” designed to make the Italian nameplate “one of the world’s leading luxury automotive companies.”

The plan, revealed by CEO Michael Perschke, calls for the acquisition of a manufacturing facility in Italy, and the setup of several production lines in charge with rolling out electric vehicles. All will be based on the platform currently under development at the hands of Bosch and Benteler.

“Our strategic collaboration with Bosch and Benteler unlocks the opportunity for growth, through development of high performance EV architecture to be deployed by Automobili Pininfarina and potentially other OEM clients,” said the company’s CEO in a statement.

“The launch of Battista heralded the arrival of our exciting new brand, and these are the plans that give us a strong platform for future success.”

For now, there is no word on exactly what type of cars or how many Pininfarina is thinking of making, but in a teaser photo released with the announcement we can see behind the Battista no less than four others, under wraps.

The Battista, powered by the same battery pack deployed on the Rimac C_Two, has a range of around 450 km (280 miles), and develops 1,900 horsepower and 2,300 Nm of torque from four electric motors.

Only 150 units of the model will be hand built, and sell for yet undisclosed prices.
