Why do we love superyachts so much? Maybe it’s because they show us a way of life usually inaccessible to 99% of the population. Maybe it’s because of their spectacular designs. Whatever your reasons for loving yachts, get a load of this one.
It’s known as the SuperSport 65 from famed Pininfarina. Yes, that Pininfarina. This vessel took shape through a collaboration with luxury yacht builder Rossinavi, along with three others: the SuperSport 50 you’ve already seen, the 65 we'll be covering today, and a third one we’ll talk about it some other time.
So, what do we know about this beauty? Well, not much. Even the hull material isn’t yet chosen. Why? Because for now, this is just a dream that the Italian Riviera is yet to see. We do know that Rossinavi specializes in steel and aluminum hulls, though, so the chances of this comprising anything else are slim - except some carbon fiber here and there.
Granted, a 65.5-meter hull (approximately 215 ft) would have no chance of performing with a carbon fiber hull and such a large superstructure atop it. Speaking of superstructure, the top of the vessel seems to bring the action on with a forward-facing jacuzzi and a few seats for your guests. As for the rear, we see a few longs chairs overlooking aft.
The next deck down would be a nice place for the owner's loft, but Pininfarina chose to set it on the main deck, with all other guest quarters below. So here we find an outdoor dining area, more aft facing seating, and an interior reserved for navigational controls and a few other social spaces.
Also on this deck, but at the bow, we can find an aft-facing lounge bed suitable for about 10-12 people. A few tables and chairs set against a jacuzzi back-drop look stunning as you cruise into harbor. All the while, shimmering black glass closes off the space behind, offering the perfect backdrop for tanning skin.
The main deck is reserved, like most other yachts, for social and entertaining spaces. The first thing you hit after you’ve taken your first steps up from the beach deck is a jacuzzi. After all, why have only a forward-facing body of water when the rear of this young vessel is just as lovely?
If you choose to take a step indoors to cool off or escape the sun, you can enter a space ready with a minibar and a huge social space equipped with oversized couches and a large table in the middle.
From here, we can have a seat at the dinner table or head further into the ship where we find more intimate nooks and crannies, and eventually, the owner’s quarters I mentioned earlier.
The final deck is reserved for crew and guest quarters, but also for the large tender and toy garages. The first garage is for tenders and slightly large toys such as jet skis and even a powerboat or two, while aft the beach club stairwell hides a toy garage, complete with kayaks, waterskies, and a few other water toys.
But why the SuperSport name? Well with four MTU 16V 2000 engines, this massive hunk of steel can still reach top speeds of 30 knots, and usually cruise around with a 28-knot speed, making it faster than most other vessels.
As for myself, I've maneuvered a few boats in my life, and honestly, doing 28 knots while trying to enjoy a sip of something or a bit to eat is no easy feat. But then again, this is just a concept until... MONEY!
