Pikes Peak Sets Up Memorial Fund for Bobby Goodin

From some tragedies comes greatness, and it looks like the tragic death of motorcycle racer Bobby Goodin could be the saving grace for future motorcycle racers. The organizers of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, where Goodin died last month, have set up the Bobby Goodin Pikes Peak Motorcycle Safety Fund to raise money to support Goodin’s family and to improve motorcycle safety at the annual hill climb.

Goodin, 54, was killed on June 29 as the result of a crash immediately after he crossed the finish line when he lost control of his Triumph 675R. This was just his second time running at Pikes Peak, but his family and friends want his name to live on at the legendary racing event.

The PPIHC Board of Directors set up the fund to provide financial support for Goodin’s two daughters, and money will also be used to make the 12.42-mile, 156-turn course safer for motorcycle racers.

“Despite the emotional strain and grief on the part of Bobby Goodin’s family, friends and crew, each of them has been clear that they want the donations to this special fund to go to improved safety for all motorcycle riders,” said Tom Osborne, PPIHC Chairman of the Board.

Although it isn’t clear what of improvements are planned for the course, it is definitely a touching way to honor a fallen racer. To make a donation to the Bobby Goodin Pikes Peak Motorcycle Safety Fund, click here.
