For the 2019 model year, the full-size pickup truck segment in North America is hotter than ever before. Ram and Chevrolet have all-new products to offer, but Ford isn’t too far behind with the half-ton representative of the F-Series family. The question is, which of the three is the best package out there?
Edmunds took the decision to test the Ram, Chevrolet, and Ford in a sort of battle royale. Stretching more than 18 minutes, the comparo comes courtesy of testing director Dan Edmunds, staff writer Travis Langness, and special correspondent Elana Scherr.

“We drove them in the city, drove them on the highway, towed a big Airstream trailer, and spent hundreds of miles behind the wheel of all three trucks to see which one comes out on top.” The truth of the matter is, the verdict is on the subjective side of things.

First of all, there’s no mention of payload capacity, which is an important aspect for people in the market for a workhorse. In this regard, there's no mention of the coil springs at the rear of the Ram 1500. Then there’s the segment where they talk about “truck jealousy” and the complaint about the large mirrors of the F-150. But that’s not all.

The Chevrolet with the 5.3-liter V8 (355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet) was described as not on par with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6-equipped Ford (375 horsepower and 410 pound-feet). More to the point, Edmunds said the F-150 goes up a hill easier than the Silverado. Pardon my French, but why didn’t you get the 6.2-liter V8 in the ‘Rado for a fair comparison?

Deliberate or not, logical blunders don’t help Edmunds at all in this comparison test. Even the YouTube comments point the finger at the bias, as follows: “Such a bad review with no mention of reliability. I hate to say but looks like it was sponsored by Ram even if it wasn't.”

Here's another example: “You can tell these people don't know anything when they don't even know what towing mirrors are and that they are an option.” And this one: “This review was unfairly harsh on its criticisms of the Chevy. Seems they nitpicked more and clearly they don’t understand truck buyers when you bring up material feel and driving impressions.”

On that note, who the hell takes a trio of full-size pickup trucks to the test track to decide which one is best? At the end of the day, go to the dealers and drive all of them before deciding which one is worth your money.
