For the first time ever, American Audi fans will get a chance to drive an RS6-flavored Avant. That's because this week, when announcing the launch of the new generation, the Germans confirmed the car’s availability in the U.S. And it’s perhaps for the better the RS6 crosses the ocean only now, as the changes compared to the previous version are extensive and all of them for the better.
Visually, this is a whole new breed of car, much more aggressive and clearly more modern in interpretation. And there’s a little bit of “new” all around the car.
At the front, the more aggressive stance is the most visible. Everything has changed to emphasize this, from the bulges on the hood to the shape of the Singleframe front grille and air intakes. Also, the LED headlights are new in both type and shape, giving the RS6 the most intricate look we've seen in the range.
From the side, what stands out as new and different is the design of the exterior mirrors, and the overall shape of the car’s windows, which seems to be narrower. The side and door panels are more sculpted, contributing to the more upright stance the new RS6 seems to have.
At the rear, the sportier nature of the RS is emphasized by the redesigned and a tad larger rear lights, the roof edge spoiler and an RS-specific bumper with a rear diffuser.
Under the hood, the car packs a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that develops 600 ps and 800 Nm of torque, about 40 ps more than the old generation. These figures allow the car to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 3.6 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 250 kph (155 mph).
At least these are the figures for the European market, with the ones for the U.S. to be announced closer to market launch.
The new RS6 Avant will roll down American streets in the early months of 2020.
