Phelps Admitted Drinking Before the Crash

We were telling you last week about Michael Phelps and his three-car accident, which occurred after someone ran a stoplight, eye-witnesses said at that moment. Though Phelps was questioned after the incident, policemen found that a field sobriety test was not necessary and concluded that alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the crash.

However, Michael Phelps recently admitted that he drank a beer about an hour and 15 minutes before getting behind the wheel of his Cadillac Escalade and collided with a woman driving a Honda Accord.

As we then reported, though Michael’s car suffered some heavy damage, needing a tow-truck to remove it from the scene, the 24-year-old Olympian refused any medical treatment, and reportedly escaped with no serious injuries. Unfortunately, the woman complained of head and arm pain, therefore she was taken to a local hospital.

According to The Insider, investigators have found the Accord's driver, Amanda E. Virkus, was at fault for the crash. Therefore, she will be cited for running a red light and causing an accident.

Phelps will not walk free from this incident, as he will also be cited for driving with an invalid, out-of-state license. When police arrived on scene following the mishap, the Olympic swimmer showed an invalid Maryland driver's license because the swimmer did not have established residency in the state.

Phelps wrote on his Facebook page that he is fine and glad that nobody was seriously hurt in the incident. “I hope the other driver is doing ok. My ankle hurts and I am having it checked out, but nothing that is going to prevent me from getting back to training on Monday...,” he added.
