Peugeot’s New Boxer 4x4 Concept Looks Ready For Adventure

At the Recreational Vehicle Show in Le Bourget on September 28th, the French Lion will showcase the Boxer 4x4 Concept in the flesh. As the name implies, the list of modifications over the bog-standard Boxer starts with a four-wheel-drive system from Dangel, BF Goodrich all-terrain tires, and higher ground clearance.

The front axle sits 30 millimeters higher while the rear has been lifted 50 millimeters for better overlanding capability. There’s even a Lock function for the rear axle, which should come handy when the going gets really off-road for the Boxer 4x4 Concept. For some reason or another, the part-time 4WD is connected to a six-speed manual instead of a torque-converter automatic transmission as you’d expect from a vehicle in this segment and with these no-nonsense modifications.

Starting life out as the Boxer L3, the one-off overlander also boasts plastic cladding, Wanderlust Green paintwork, eight LED modules above the windshield for additional illumination at night, and the BlueHDi 165 with start & stop. The engine’s torque is more than sufficient for this application, rated at 370 Nm (273 pound-feet) low down in the rev range. A Canadian walnut canoe and an electrically-assisted bicycle on the rear rack complete the picture as far as the exterior design is concerned.

Inside is where you’re treated to 9.0 inches of touchscreen infotainment and navigation, Waze real-time traffic alerts, the simultaneous pairing of two mobile phones, a sink, worktop, and even a table. The bathroom and sleeping area are other highlights of the 10-square-meter living space, and the upholstery is special in its own right. The Greval Grey upholstery may be premium, but Peugeot used recycled plastic for the floor of the van.

If you were wondering, Peugeot took the recycled plastic from tanks, milk bottles, and even soap bottles. The sink, worktop, and table are eco-friendly too, made from a white natural mineral called Aragonite. The Alpine-provided satellite navigation is smart enough to tell the driver which bridges are too low for the Boxer 4x4 Concept, an extremely useful on the long haul.

There are no plans to put this thing into series production, but nevertheless, there are a lot of alternative in this segment for adventure-oriented campers.
