Peugeot Working on 501 Four-Door Coupe and Cabrio

Peugeot is right now taking the brunt of the European crisis, which is crippling its sales and sending them tumbling to levels not seen for some decades. But the company is not giving up yet. In fact, it’s launching a new model program which should transform its lineup within the next 3 years or so.

One of the most important new models according to French publication L’Automobile is a four-door coupe. It will be called the 501 and will directly rival Audi’s A3 sport limousine and the Mercedes Benz CLA, both of which will be launched next year.

The four-door will sit under the 508 sedan in the range and will measure 4.6 meters, which is 190mm shorter than the 508 sedan and 110 shorter than the wagon. Th styling will also be much more muscular and sporty to rival the Germans.

Peugeot considered making the 307 into a four-door coupe back in 2007 but decided against this. Now, these models are becoming increasingly small as all the major German premium manufacturers are trying to expand their model ranges.

The name of the car is not yet final, but there could also be a four-seater convertible version added, something the size of the Cascada.
