Peugeot has revealed the L500R Hybrid, a concept car that does two things at the same time.
First of all, the latest concept from Peugeot celebrates the win achieved by Dario Resta at the wheel of a Peugeot L45 at the Indianapolis 500 on 30 May 1916. As you can observe, the historic win happened almost a century ago.

So Peugeot created a tribute concept that will celebrate the “Charlatans” team that achieved three wins in the USA at the Indy 500 Speedway from 1913 to 1919. Second of all, the tribute is called L500 R HYbrid, and it shows a vision of the future of motorsport from Peugeot’s perspective.

The wide and low concept is just one meter (3,28 feet) tall, and weighs only 1,000 kilograms (2,204 lbs). Its plug-in hybrid powertrain has a peak torque of 730 Nm (538.4 lb-ft) and a 500 BHP combined output, and is capable of pushing the car from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 2.5 seconds.

From a standstill, this car can cover one kilometer (0,62 mile) in just 19 seconds. The drivetrain is composed of a turbocharged gasoline engine that develops 270 HP, and a set of two electric motors, one for each axle.

Peugeot designed this concept car as a nod to its century-old ancestor, so it comes with a streamlined rear. Since it is meant to show the future, the French automaker implemented the holographic i-Cockpit into this concept car. So, instead of the new i-Cockpit display, Peugeot’s racing car concept has two discs on which holograms can be shown.

Instead of the two-seat architecture of the Peugeot L45, a classic configuration for race cars of the day - as some used to have a mechanic on-board, the French carmaker implemented a single-seat configuration.

Other design details include elements painted in black to provide a contrast, which also combine with modern identity features of Peugeot, some inspired by the new 3008 SUV. The same blue and black color scheme were used on the L45 race car, so this was a natural choice for Peugeot.
