Peugeot Sales Up in the UK

Peugeot reached an unbelievable sales rise in the United Kingdom. The French automaker managed to get its sales up 70.8% with the help of the extended scrappage scheme.

As everybody is downsizing and customers are migrating to smaller vehicles, the Peugeot’s bestsellers were the 107, the 207 and the 308 models. The award winning 3008 Crossover and the 5008 MPV also had excellent sales. Peugeot’s cars and light commercial vehicles claimed a year-to-date market share of 6.18% in the UK.

Jon Goodman, MD of Peugeot Motor Company, said: “Well, we’ve done it again in February, proving that January was not a New Year quirk and massively outperforming the market and consolidating our market share.”

“What is more, underneath these standout figures lies an upward trend in business use that reflects the quality, driveability and excellent ownership package that come with a Peugeot. With the excellent start made by our new stars, the 3008 and 5008, March registrations upon us, the RCZ launch coming up in the Spring and two mouth watering concepts just previewed at Geneva, the Peugeot brand is truly on the move.”

The UK government decided to extend the country's scrappage scheme by adding an extra month and pushing the deadline well into March. Until now, the scheme has proved to be very efficient, as some 330,000 new vehicles have been sold. The UK has pumped about 400 million pounds in the scheme since May last year, setting the limit of vehicles to be sold to 400,000. Customers who choose to buy a new car through the program benefit from a 2,000 pounds discount on the price of the new vehicle.
