This concept car is a tribute to a model produced by Peugeot starting with late 1960s, the 504 Coupe, a rear-wheel drive car that for its age became quite the head turner. More than half a century away, the lines and style of the coupe will be revived.

The Paris show will see Peugeot unveil the e-Legend concept, an all-electric, autonomous, connected retro-futuristic car, drawn in such a way as to usher in the future design language of the brand while keeping in touch with its heritage and incorporating new technologies.

That’s pretty much how Matthias Hossann, the head of Peugeot concept cars, sums up the e-Legend. What we see is perhaps the best-looking concept of the year so far, a car that looks mean from the front, stylish from the side and modern from the back.

A few millimeters longer than the 504 Coupe it pays tribute to, the concept has enough room on its floor to house 100 kW batteries that give it a range of 600 km (370 miles). Forward motion is achieved using electric motors with a combined output of 456 hp and 800 Nm of torque.

When Peugeot said they made this concept autonomous, they meant partially so, depending on the desire of the driver. The carmaker went to great length to create not one, but four driving modes for the e-Legend, only two of which autonomous.

The two autonomous modes are Soft and Sharp. Soft can be chosen for the comfort of the passengers, with little to none screens or displays lit, while Sharp keep the screens on, for those in need of keeping in touch with their online persona or getting some work done.

The two manual driving modes are called Legend and Boost, with the former providing a cruising mode with dashboard designed like that of the original 504 Coupe: three dials and a digitally-created wood effect display on various screen.

Boost takes the driver back to the modern age, using a 180-degree immersive experience, as Peugeot says. This is achieved using the Peugeot Responsive i-Cockpit, complete with voice-activated personal assistant.

Peugeot did not yet confirm a production version of the e-Legend, not even in less-autonomous or electric guise. They’ll probably wait and see the reactions from the Paris show, and maybe then a decision will be made. Until then, enjoy the gallery.
