Peugeot’s 3008 has received its second generation, eight years since it first came to market. The new model will be launched at this year’s Paris Motor Show, but it has already been revealed by the French company through a photo gallery. Along with the set of images, Peugeot also released a few details of the new 3008.
Those interested in technical specifications, as well as information like fuel economy and performance, must wait until this fall, when the 2016 Paris Motor Show will take place. We do know that the car is lighter, more fuel efficient, and more agile than the ongoing model.
Peugeot’s new 3008 sits on the EMP2 platform from the current 308, and it comes with a length of 4,450 mm (175 inches). The wheelbase has been increased, while width remained unchanged. Total height was lowered by 19mm to 1,620 mm (63 inches).
The French automaker says that the new 3008 has a bigger trunk volume, with a total capacity of 520 liters, the equivalent of 18,36 cubic feet. Folding the second row of seats forms a flat floor and provides a loading capacity of 1,580 liters.
On average, the new 3008 is around 100 kilograms (220 pounds) lighter than its predecessor. The French achieved this through the use of ultra-high strength steel, and smart solutions, including aluminum front wings, thermoplastic trunk floor, and much more. The engine range has 1.2-liter PureTech engines, 1.6-liter THP units, and 1.6-liter BlueHDi diesels. The latter is mixed in the range with 2.0-liter BlueHDi power plants.
Another significant change employed in the 3008 range is the interior. Peugeot’s latest i-Cockpit is featured on this model, and comes with all-new sensitive buttons. Another premiere for this model and Peugeot is the introduction of a concept called Amplify.
This addresses the senses of the driver. It allows adjusting the car’s fragrance diffuser, changing musical ambiance settings, varying the intensity of ambient lighting, and the availability of a multi-point massage device in the seats.
The automaker provides two pre-set ambiances from the factory, Boost, and Relax. They are entirely selective and slightly adjustable and provide a different interior feel once engaged. Currently, Peugeot has three exclusive fragrances for the 3008, and each can be adjusted to three levels of intensity.
The 3008 will mark the first collaboration of an automaker with Focal, which will install an optional 10-speaker audio system onboard. The system works with a 12-channel amplifier that delivers 515 watts. The high-performance sound system is integrated into the advanced multimedia unit, that includes a smartphone charging system and 3D connected navigation.
