Peugeot Confirm Bourdais for Le Mans

Sebastien Bourdais' racing commitments for 2009 have received yet another boost, after French manufacturer Peugeot confirmed the 4-time Champ Car winner for the 2009 edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours Race. The Toro Rosso driver will join American Le Mans Series driver David Brabham in the Peugeot lineup, as the duo will replace 2008 drivers Jacques Villeneuve and Ricardo Zonta.

This will be Bourdais' second appearance in the famous endurance race, as the Frenchman managed an incredible runner-up place at his 24 Hours of Le Mans debut in 2007 (still with Peugeot, on the No 8 908 Hdi). He was offered the chance to make a Le Mans return shortly after being confirmed by Toro Rosso for a second consecutive season inside Formula 1.

“In 2007, I started this great adventure with the whole Peugeot team. In 2008, there was a problem with the time schedule so I couldn't do it again, but I always agreed with (Peugeot team manager) Serge (Saulnier) that I could do something this year,” commented Bourdais after receiving confirmation of his 2nd Le Mans 24 Hours campaign.

Just as Bourdais in Formula 1, Brabham also received confirmation of a full-time campaign in the American Le Mans Series for Acura, in the LMP1 class. The Australian driver will return to the French race as winner of the GT1 class, which he mastered last year driving an Aston Martin.

“It is a great honor for me to be a Peugeot driver with the history of my brother Geoff's victory. That was a big occasion, and hopefully we'll have another one this year,” said Brabham, who will be making his Peugeot debut this year in the prototype class.

The two drivers were the last to be confirmed by Peugeot for their assault on the Le Mans 24 Hours Race this year. Peugeot Sport presented their entire lineup during a press conference yesterday, including new team manager Olivier Quesnel. Apart from the aforementioned duo, Peugeot will also start Nicolas Minassian, Marc Gene, Christian Klien, Pedro Lamy, Franck Montagny and Stephane Sarrazin.
