Peugeot BB1, On Its Way to London

Peugeot’s tiny concept will be visiting London’s Covent Garden this weekend, the French manufacturer announced. Therefore, any of you who would like to take a closer look at what Peugeot says “It has the most extraordinary of DNAs - its father is a scooter and its mother is a car,” are invited to explore the Peugeot electric-powered concept car in front of the central market.

The general public therefore get to have a glimpse into the future of urban mobility. The BB1 will be housed in an enormous bubble and additionally, there will also be twenty five Peugeot BB1 branded rickshaws operating around Central London to attract visitors to the BB1 display, free of both cost and emissions.

First unveiled at this year’s Frankfurt Auto Show, the Peugeot BB1 concept is a fully electric vehicle that can accommodate four passengers, though some might think the atmosphere could get a bit too crowded inside. It is 2.5 meters long and provides a different driving position as there are no pedals on the floor. In fact, the vehicle’s controls are more scooter than car.

Furthermore, the rear passenger is seated in tandem behind the driver, with the right front and rear seats adopting the same architecture. Solar panels help power the vehicle’s onboard systems and it will communicate directly with a modern smart phone, so one can have your music, images, hands-free phone and navigation just how they like it.

Power comes from two electric motors, developed in collaboration with Michelin, installed in the rear wheels. The power unit releases a maximum power of 15 kW / 20 hp, or 7.5 kW per unit. This means the car can go from 0 to 30 km/h in 2.8 seconds and from 30 to 60 km/h in 4 seconds.
