Peugeot 508 Sedan to Replace 407 and 607

Similar to the rest of the auto sector, Peugeot is looking at ways to eliminate disappointing models with new ones that could sell better and attract more buyers into the current depressed market. One of the first solutions prepared by Peugeot is, according to PSA boss Philippe Varin, the introduction of the new 508 sedan that will take the place of both the 407 and 607.

Obviously, details are not available at this point but leblogauto.com writes that the first glimpse into how the future 508 will look like will be given at the Paris Auto Show in autumn 2010. The car will be then unveiled in production form at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, with sales likely to begin soon after that.

If we are to trust the rumors, the 508 range will also include a hybrid model, especially optimized to tackle the current difficult market conditions. Additionally, the car might serve as the base platform for a future crossover, with voices close to the matter hinting that Peugeot is looking to start such a project soon after the public unveiling of the 508.

Peugeot 407 was officially introduced in 2004 and is offered with a wide array of engine configurations, including diesel and gasoline units, mated to either manual or automatic transmissions.

The top-of-the-range 407 engine is the 3.0-liter V6 that develops a maximum of 211 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 290 Nm of torque at 3,750 rpm. This means the car can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds, while topping at 235 km/h.
