Peugeot 308 CC Gets New 1.6 Liter HDI Diesel Unit

The 1.6 liter diesel engine, born out of Peugeot’s diesel HDi FAP technology, has made its debut in the motoring world under the hood of the 308 Coupe Cabriolet.

The 8 valve unit develops 112 HP (at 3,600 rpm) and has a peak torque of 270 Nm (at 1,750 rpm) with an overboost function which increases the latter to 285 Nm while meeting the new Euro 5 emission standards.

It is based on its 1.6 liter 110HP, 240Nm predecessor but 50% of its components have been redesigned in order to achieve the aforementioned values. It has also inherited the diesel particulate emission filter (FAP), with a service life of 180,000 km. As a comparison, the old unit had 110 HP and 240 Nm of torque (260 during overboost).

The 308 equipped with this engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox will take 12.2 second (yawn) to reach the first hundred and, if pushed (why would anyone want to do that?) will reach 191 km/h. On the upside this version of the car returns a combined fuel economy in the EU cycle of 5.3 liters/100 km (44.4 mpg US/53.3 mpg UK).

The fresh engine (aka HDi 112) can be mounted on the Sport and SE trim levels and the whole package can be yours starting from around  EUR 24,000.
