The current Peugeot 3008 was an odd car that had many people scratch their heads and others shake them in disbelief. Back in 2009 when it was first launched, Peugeot wasn't going through the happiest part of its life and this didn't look like the kind of car to change that.
And it wasn't, that role falling on the new 208's shoulders launched in 2012. That was the model to launch the Peugeot comeback we're still experiencing today with cars like the new 308 or 2008.

The 3008, then, feels a bit like a dinosaur among the current Peugeot range and so it's due for a replacement soon. And by soon, we mean sometime around the first part of 2017.

As you probably know, the 3008 had a pretty debatable design that people still argue about: "Is it a crossover? Is it an MPV?" Is it really relevant? You could say that the Pug opened a whole new segment for itself, but unlike other cars that did that, no other models rushed to join it.

Since the new car is so heavily camouflaged, it's hard to tell any of the details, but we can get a pretty good impression of its dimensions and proportions. And there are plenty of changes.

First of all, the new Peugeot 3008 appears to shed any connections with the MPV world in terms of overall shape, going for a more classic crossover look. One could even slate it as an SUV, depending on whether it will get 4WD (on the current model, only de 4HYbrid gets it).

The bonnet is now a lot longer and more distinctively separated from the windshield, there appear to be some stronger wheel arches and a slightly dropping roofline. Ignoring all the other details we can't see, these things add up to a car with a lot less controversy potential.

That's good news, but only if Peugeot manage to not make it boring. We don't need another generic SUV/crossover, so Peugeot should try to keep some of the previous model's personality and just focus on the nicer traits...
