In 2006, Kia poached designer Peter Schreyer from Audi. What came after that was a slew of ever more interesting cars. The Korean brand actually grew to have its own identity, very sober and German, but also quite likable with younger buyers.
Schreyer was awarded for his work recently, when he became Kia’s first non-Korean Kia president.
Now, he’s been given even more responsibilities, as Hyundai Motor Group Chairman and CEO Mong-Koo Chung appointed him President of Hyundai and Kia’s design centers.
“Design is not just the most visible aspect of the car but it’s an area customers have a strong emotional connection to. It is at the center of our efforts to enhance our brand value”, said Hyundai Motor Group’s R&D Center Vice Chairman Woong-Chul Yang.
It will be interesting to see how Hyundai’s “fluidic sculpture” design language evolves under the German.
