Peter Sauber to Become Sauber-Ferrari Manager?

Peter Sauber may become team manager once again in Formula One. Following the reported buyout of the BMW Sauber F1 Team by Swiss foundation Qadbak earlier this week, it seems that 65-year old Sauber will continue to be an active person in the new organization.

The Swiss currently owns 20 percent of the Hinwil based outfit, but his extensive knowledge and long-time experience in the sport qualifies him as a valid team manager. If he'll take the job, he'll replace BMW's motorsport director Mario Theissen, who has coordinated the activity back at Hinwil for the past 4 years.

We are probably going to meet again next week and then I will be able to better answer this question. If the investors want me as the team head then I will do that. That doesn't mean I want to do it, but the fact is I assured these people before the sale that I am at their disposal if they need me, no matter for what role,” said Sauber in an interview with Swiss newspaper Blick.

Sauber was actively involved in the BMW's buyout efforts during the past few weeks, as he urged the German manufacturer to find a solution for keeping the team alive in the sport. However, he avoided to give any clear verdicts on the potential engine deal with Ferrari, limiting himself at saying that “this question might only be answered conclusively next week.”

Although the new team will be backed by the Qadbak consortium, its name will be Sauber-Ferrari – is the partnership between the team and the Italian car maker will materialize. However, Sauber kept all the information about Qadbak to himself, as the foundation is still an unknown subject to most of the media.

All I can say is that the group has enterprises the whole world over and wants to use formula one as a business platform,” added the 65-year old Swiss driver.
