Remember the somewhat funny and intriguing story dating back from 2010 when a motorcycle rider filed a law suit against BMW for the permanent erection he allegedly got after riding a Bavarian bike for 4 hours? Well, the court battle is finally over: riding a BMW does not give a permanent erection.
In 2010, California-based Henry Wolf sued both BMW and Corbin, the manufacturer of the bike’s seat for “lost wages, medical expenses, emotional distress and ‘general damages’,“ as visrodown reports. Wolf claimed that his permanent erection problems started after riding a BMW K1100RS motorcycle for about 4 hours.
The case was long and troublesome, but in the end, judge James J. McBride of the Superior Court of San Francisco ruled that there was not enough evidence to support the plaintiff’s claim. The trial also had Corbin-Pacific’s Mike Corbin offering testimony, as well as urologist Dr. Jack McAninch. The latter testified that the plaintiff suffered indeed of priapism, the condition which involves permanent erection.
The court rejected neurologist Dr. Jonathan Rutchik’s opinion that a motorcycle’s vibrations can cause priapism. The defendants also provided testimonials from the bike’s former owners. So here goes one more urban myth…
