A lot of people will agree that if there’s one thing the new C63 - especially the S version - doesn’t need, it’s more power. But that means a lot of people forget one very important aspect: you can never have too much power.
If past examples are anything to go by, it would appear that 600+ horsepower is the reasonable limit to which the new 4.0-liter AMG V8 engine can be pushed without physical modifications. The Germans at performmaster tend to agree, releasing their PEC tuning module that bumps the power output all the way to 612 hp.
For those with a more mathematical mind among you, that’s a 28 percent increase compared to the 476 hp of the standard Mercedes-AMG C63. “Yeah, but the S...” OK, OK, we know the “S” comes with 510 hp, but that still means over 100 extra horsepower for the top AMG model.
And we haven’t even talked about the torque figures. The performmaster treatment gives the AMG models a maximum output of 840 Nm (620 lb-ft), a whole 140 Nm (104 lb-ft) over the C63 S’ standard readings.
In terms of actual performance, the top speed is catapulted over the 300 km/h (186 mph) mark all the way to 310 km/h (192 mph), while the standard cars stop at 280 km/h (174 mph) - C63 and 290 km/h (180 mph) - C63 S.
Acceleration-wise, the performance upgrade cuts the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time by 0.3 seconds, and from zero to 200 km/h (124 mph) by 1.3 seconds. That means the performmaster machines will reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill in just 3.8 seconds and 200 km/h (124 mph) in 11.4 seconds.
Last but not least, have a look at how this C63 by performmaster looks. The fact that they went for the T-Modell as their showcase car suggests the kind of self-assurance that can only be good for business, and that they succeeded in making it look more vicious than most AMG saloons speaks volumes about their abilities. Not to mention all they really did was add some decals...
