Sergio Perez’ podium finish at the Italian F1 Grand Prix, the third of the season for the Mexian driver, brought about a great deal of appreciation. Even podium interviewer, F1 legend Niki Lauda, had great things to say about the young driver: "I take my hat off, Sergio. You did an incredible job."
With such an impressive record for such a ‘new’ driver, rumors of a move from Sauber to Ferrari have surfaced. The switch could take place as of next season, and since he managed to overtake both Massa and Alonso, the question of him being competitive enough for ‘the job’ can be put to rest.

However, Peter Sauber, boss of the Sauber team, has kept things tight-lipped about a potential move, neither confirming nor denying it. Also, Sauber’s Chief Executive Monisha Kaltenborn went on to add: "We will in due course announce (the drivers) for the next season. I am still relaxed, as I was months ago."

On the other side of the story, Ferrari’s Stefano Domenicali stated that "At the moment we cannot give any information away regarding (Ferrari academy member) Sergio Perez [. . .] He drove a good race, no doubt."
