Pennzoil Joyride Baja Ad Mixes Jeep Wrangler Offroading, Ford Raptor Camera Car

When you take racing driver Rhys Millen to the Baja desert and hand him the keys to a Jeep Wrangler, you can expect a ton of wild stunts to follow - this would be an extremely superficial way of summing up Pennzoil's latest ad.

However, we're here to dig deeper and discuss the brilliant Joyride Baja spot delivered by JWT Atlanta. Those of you following the world of high-octane ads have noticed that the motor oil producer's Joyride series kicked off back in April. Nevertheless, while that spot brought us a Ferrari 488 GTB being flogged on the track, this time it's all about offroading.

The Wrangler Rubicon seen battling the 130 °F Mexican desert comes with a few mods, just like the Challenger Hellcat featured in last year's Pennzoil Airlift Drift ad featured a hydraulic handbrake. For one thing, we can easily notice the beadlock wheels, shod in hefty offroading tires, as well as the digital add-on dashboard display, which obviously doesn't skip showing us how engine oil temps go over 200 °F in such conditions.

While the first clip below, the ad itself, gives us the kind of rugged terrain adventure that can easily thrill, the second clip brings an interactive take on the matter, offering a 360-degree perspective.

However, the third piece of footage below also has our undivided attention and it's not because we're suckers for behind-the-scenes clips. Instead, the video offers a few brief details involving the camera car(s) used to capture the kind of extreme stunts delivered here.

And when the press release mentions a "one-of-a-kind Ford Raptor Pursuit Systems vehicle,"  you can color us impressed. While Pursuit Systems is known for its Porsche Cayenne and offroad buggy camera cars, the Raptor part is new, but we weren't able to find any additional info on the matter.

Oh well, guess we'll just have to invite you to check out how the racing driver throws the Jeep into low gear with the Fast And Furious kind of shifting enthusiasm.
