Peel Microcar to Make a Short Comeback

Talk about downsizing to a whole new level... we are not yet quite sure how many of you heard until now about the Peel microcars, a bunch of British contraptions built in the 1960s by Peel Engineering.

The insanely fun-looking three wheeler, capable of seating one adult and a shopping bag, as it was advertised in its glory days, died out rather quickly, some three years since its inception, because of lack of interest. Apparently, the vehicle was not that fun for the VW Hippie-van-lovers of that decade.

But it's fun enough for our days, a couple of entrepreneurs said to themselves. So they got together, bought the remains of the company which used to built the microcars using an investor's money and are now planning a comeback...

The only 50 units to be manufactured will be, of course, electric vehicles, with yet undisclosed performances. The 50 units will be divided equally between the Peel P-50, (the regular looking version) and the Peel Trident (the Jetsons looking version).

Now don't go thinking that just because it is small, a Peel will be cheap. In fact, the Peel will peel off your skin, as one example of them will be sold for EUR15,200 ($19,000).

No one really knows what is the purpose of this manufacturing exercise. Could it be that if Jeremy Clarkson brings something on Top Gear, then there's enough reason to take up that something? We don't know, but be sure we'll come back on this subject as soon as something juicy pops up. Or peels off, who knows...
