Pedrosa Undergoes Surgery at Right Collarbone

Dani Pedrosa's participation in the Catalunya GP next month continues to be in doubt, especially after it has now been confirmed that the Spaniard has undergone surgery at his right collarbone following the crash he sustained in the recent French GP.

The Spaniard was involved in a cornering accident with Honda's Marco Simoncelli while battling for second place in the Le Mans race, when the latter crossed his way and touched his bike, causing him to crash. Shortly after the race was over, and following preliminary medical checks in the paddock, it was confirmed that Pedrosa broke his collarbone, but it was uncertain whether he would let it heal naturally or undergo surgery.

On Wednesday, it was confirmed that he was operated by the medical staff at the Teknon Medical Centre in Barcelona (a place he knows all too well, following the previous medical interventions on his left collarbone through the past year).

According to reports, a titanium plate was inserted to fix the fracture in the right collarbone during yesterday's operation. After he'll be released from hospital, Pedrosa will begin rehabilitation at home, and probably hope for the best, since the race at Circuit de Catalunya is less than 3 weeks away.

Neither him nor his Honda organization have announced anything regarding his presence in the Spanish race. So far, the only statement coming from the Japanese manufacturer is that “his presence in the Grand Prix of Catalunya, to be held on June 5th, is uncertain.”
