Pedrosa Ready for Barcelona Despite Violent Mugello Crash

Despite his violent crash during the past weekend's Alice Grand Premio d'Italia at Mugello, Spanish rider Dani Pedrosa thinks he can be physically fit to make the grid in his home Catalonian race, 2 weeks from now. The Honda rider had an incident-full weekend in Italy, as he further damaged his already-affected hip during both Saturday's qualifying and Sunday's race.

As his Honda jolted while exiting a corner during Saturday's action, it has surfaced that Pedrosa sustained a slight injury to his right hip. That was actually the main reason why he spent most of his time during the race in the rear of the field, as he was trying not to push too hard in order to avoid further physical damage.

However, the Spaniard failed to finish the race on top of his bike, as he eventually crashed out of the Italian GP after only 14 laps. Although it was initially believed this last crash would end his hopes of racing before his home crowd in Barcelona, Pedrosa assured his fans that he will be able to climb his Honda two weekends from now.

Pedrosa underwent several medical interventions during the course of the off-season, as a result of the multitude of injuries he had sustained last year. As a consequence, the Spaniard had little time to get used to the 2009-spec Honda and is now 33 points behind championship leader Casey Stoner, having already suffered two race crashes this year.

It's quite hard to find anything very positive to say right now, but I'm glad that I didn't do any more damage when I crashed - that's something. I want to check it again with my doctors and have a bit of rest – I feel really tired now. Despite this setback we'll keep working. It's my home Grand Prix next and I just hope I can go there and be in contention,” said Pedrosa after the Italian GP.

I want to thank Doctor Costa and his assistants for all his help that allowed me to be on the grid. I had another injection before the race but the conditions were very hard to read and it was difficult for me to gain confidence or find a rhythm – also the bike change wasn't easy for me because of my leg,” added the Spaniard.
