Pedrosa Could Miss Catalunya GP

Dani Pedrosa's crash in the French Grand Prix may have cost him more than a potential podium at Le Mans, as the Spaniard's participation in the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix, at Circuit de Catalunya, remains in doubt.

While fighting for second place against Gresini Honda's Marco Simoncelli last weekend, the latter came across from the outside in a left-hander and touched his bike, causing him to hit the gravel. Following some preliminary checks in the paddock, it was confirmed that Pedrosa broke his right collarbone in the crash (after his left collarbone has already been subject to multiple surgeries through the past year).

Having spent the entire Sunday night in hospital, Pedrosa now awaits the doctors' verdict on whether he needs operation on his right shoulder or not. In case surgery is required, the Honda rider may have to miss the race in Catalunya, scheduled 3 weeks from now, although that possibility also stands if he'll let his collarbone heal naturally.

Pedrosa spent the night in the hospital, immobilized with a compressive dressing, and will decide in the next few days if he will undergo surgery to repair the fracture with a new plate or let the bone heal itself without intervention,” said a statement from Honda on Monday.

In either case, his presence in the Grand Prix of Catalunya, to be held on June 5th, is uncertain,” it added.

After his crash in France, Pedrosa has dropped to 3rd in the overall classification, 5 points behind teammate Casey Stoner and 17 points less than championship leader and reigning world champion Jorge Lorenzo.
