Pedestrian Fails at Faking Accident for Insurance Claims

Some people are so desperate for attention and, why not, the monetary gains involved in being hit by a car, and then asking for ‘compensation to drop the charges’ that they are willing to do virtually anything to achieve the desired results. We recently posted a video from Taiwan showcasing the point, and now we have another one to show, with (we think) the exact same person - the new video is also from Taipei, Taiwan.

This time, instead of running towards the car, the scammer runs from the sidewalk to the middle of the road, where he or she crouches, waiting to be hit by a car. This is rather disturbing and we’re glad the driver was paying attention to the road, as this could have ended really badly for both parties if he wasn’t.

Do watch out for such scammers, as they will get you in a lot of trouble over absolutely nothing, and if you don’t have a dash-mounted camera, it will be very hard to prove to the cops that you have been scammed. Volvo’s City Safety system and other AEB (autonomous emergency braking) systems, and others like it will render these attempts useless, but we just have to wait for them to become standard on more cars.
