The Jumbo Jet or the Queen of the Skies is renown for being the first wide-body aircraft ever produced and, of course, for its distinctive “hump” upper deck along the forward part. Rich rock stars and pop stars alike sometimes buy one of these puppies and turn them into their private condominium. But what would you say if we were to tell you there’s a way for any of use to spend a night on board of one?
Imagine surprising your better half with this prolonged city break to celebrate your anniversary in Sweden. It’s Europe, which means it will be something different, something she’ll most likely enjoy. Here’s where the catch is, however. You take off, spend hours on the airplane and when you eventually get off the aircraft in Stockholm, instead of leaving the airport you stay there. Well, it’s not actually at the airport where you’ll be sojourning, but it’s close.

Autoevolution travelers, meet Jumbo Hostel. A retired Boeing 747 that was completely reinvented as one of the coolest stays in the world. The facility offers different room categories that can accommodate one to three adults in comfort, as well as a quad dormitory bed option. Since we’re talking about a hostel, only a few rooms have a private bathroom and shower while most of them share these facilities. They do also offer a luxury suite in the converted cockpit with a panoramic view of the airport, for those rather pretentious.

The aircraft itself is a decommissioned model 747-200 Jumbo Jet built in 1976 that was operated by Transjet, a Swedish airline that went bankrupt in 2002. According to Jumbo Hostel, it was originally built for Singapore Airlines and later served with Pan Am. In 2008, the aircraft was retired and was converted into a hostel.

450 seats were taken out, and the plane was sanitized in its entirety. The inn was built like any house, subjected to the same demands on climate control and isolation. As to fees, the high-end cockpit room will set you back $434 per night, and you’ll get television, Wi-Fi, a bathroom and a view of the airport for that money. At the other end, the dorm rooms are priced at $59.25 per night, which is quite affordable come to think about.
