We get to see rival cars compared against each other every day or so, but we rarely get to see the same thing done using tuned versions of the things. Well, the guys from DragTimesInfo are not representing any random YouTube channel and if there was someone in this world capable of doing comparisons of tuned cars, they would be our primary suspects.
That said, they put together an 11-minute video showcasing two of the most hardcore SUVs available on the planet today. Initially, they set out to find out how the new Mercedes-AMG GLE63 Coupe handles itself in these new clothes.

We’re saying that because, even though Mercedes claims that this is an entirely new model, almost everything in it is borrowed from its predecessor, the ML63 AMG. Yes, it has a different body, featuring a sloping roofline that makes it (to some extremely distant extent) look like a sort of Coupe, and yes, it does have a new interior but the technical bits are the same.

Under its hood lies the same 5.5-liter M157 engine we’ve grown accustomed to that makes 557 HP in AMG guise and 585 HP in AMG S clothing. And yes, the 4Matic system and the gearbox have been “borrowed” too.

Therefore, there are no surprises here. Except one. The whole thing was enhanced by the guys from Renntech and taken up to 700 HP. However, this may be just an alpha version of the final product, as the company’s website claims that they are still working on it.

Either way, the guys thought that it would be a good idea to compare it to a BMW X5 M. Admittedly, the real rival of the GLE63 AMG Coupe would be the X6 M, the car it’s actually copying after witnessing its success, eight years after its initial launch.

Even so, the X5 M and X6 M are identical in terms of specs, performance and get-up-and-go power, so the comparison should stand nonetheless. Under the hood of the Bavarian car sits a 4.4-liter biturbo V8 making 575 HP and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque in standard guise.

However, comparing a stock car to a tuned one wouldn’t be fair. This BMW was also tuned, therefore, taken up to 650 HP by the guys from Evotech. Yes, it’s less powerful than the Merc but it has a new 8-speed gearbox, a new xDrive system on board, and it may just prove to be surprising against this, more powerful car. Let’s check out what happened then, shall we?
