Paul Newman's 1963 Indy VW Beetle Up for Grabs

A vehicle that was previously owned by late actor and racer Paul Newman and transformed by Jerry Eisert into an Indy car, is now being offered for sale Temecula, California. The vehicle in question is a red 1963 Volkswagen Beetle convertible that wears a price tag of $250,000, the InsideLine reports.

In Eiser’s hands, the Newman Indy VW received a sport-tuned suspension and a mid-mounted Ford Windsor V8 engine that develops approximately 300 hp. The unit is coupled to a 5-speed ZF gearbox that originated from most likely, a Ford GT 40.

Several years later, Newman donated the Beetle to the Chaffey College's Automotive Technology Department. At the time, the vehicle was repainted in school colors and brought out to events around Southern California. When the College closed up the Racing Program and auctioned off the cars and equipment, the department head purchased the car and it has remained in the family ever since.

The vehicle was later restored, with the work completed soon after Newman passed away in 2008, and has since been shown many times since not only in public at shows such as SEMA in Las Vegas, but also in private to members of the Newman family. This is the first time the car is being offered for public sale.

“Now the car is fresh and perfect...as nice, if not nicer than it has ever been before,” the advert on OldBug reads. “The car is truly in show worthy condition and is pretty spotless. The car is definitely driveable, everything sorted properly and ready for the wildest stoplight showdowns you could ever dream of.”
