Paul Di Resta Takes DTM Championship

The last race of the DTM championship in Shanghai concluded with Gary Paffett (Salzgitter AMG Mercedes C-Klasse) taking the race, but with Paul Di Resta taking the championship thanks to the second place in the last race which landed him a total of 71 points.

“I am really happy about my DTM title win - a dream came true. I thank my entire team and everybody at Mercedes-Benz for this great season,” the new champion said after the race.

“This smile won’t be off my face for a long time. Fortunately, my flight is only booked for Monday. I would have liked for more family members to be here to celebrate with me. But now, I will celebrate with the team. Today, it was more about the title rather than victory in the race. That has worked out”, Di Resta added.

The Shanghai race started with a three lap Safety Car, with Di Resta, Gary Paffett and Jamie Green starting from the front positions. The race ended in lap fifty, after Susie Stoddart and Mike Rockenfeller crashed and blocked the track. The red flag which followed ended the race for good, but the drivers received the full points because the race had been completed over 75 percent.

“It was a tough race and with my win I achieved everything possible. However, I had lost a few points during the season; otherwise the fight with Paul today would have been more exciting. Congratulations to him, he had a great season and deserves the championship,” Garry Paffett, the winner of the race, said.
