Patrick Dempsey's Le Mans Clip Makes You Want to Race

Driving for the third time in the world’s oldest active sports car race, Patrick Dempsey has once again partnered with top German Porsche team Proton Competition for this weekend’s race. The actor, best known for his Dr Derek role in Grey’s Anatomy television series, has filmed a promotional clip in which he talks fans that “what really counts is following your own spirit.”

After several days of preparations and reversals, this year’s Le Mans racers had finally got the chance to take their beasts on the track, as the practice sessions have started a couple of days ago. And one of those cars is Patrick Dempsey’s Porsche he is driving along his fellow team members.

Having spent almost four full days of pre-race promotion and traditional Le Mans pageantry, Patrick Dempsey, Joe Foster and Patrick Long have finally taken to their No. 77 Dempsey Racing-Proton Porsche 911 RSR on track yesterday. They are all preparing for this weekend’s 82nd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

One of the ads the Hollywood celebrity did to back up his many pro-racing campaigns is the latest add of Porsche specially made for this year’s Le Mans.

And Dempsey is as enthusiastic as they can get about the auto event. “Everything just leading up to the Le Mans race is like an event in itself, the downtown scrutineering, the autograph session, the ongoing interaction with amazing fans here. It is energizing and all-consuming at the same time, so it is always good to finally drive, finally get started in our Porsche,” the actor said according to the team’s website.

It was more than once people named Patrick the new Steve McQueen, considering he is the one that brought Le Mans to Hollywood with his 2013 “Patrick Dempsey: Racing Le Mans” documentary. Last year Dempsey and Foster joined Long, Americas’s only Factory Porsche driver, for their best Le Mans result in two appearances in the classic French race.

The team led the GTE-AM class several times and battled for a podium finish before taking the checkered flag in fourth place. Foster joined Dempsey as the anchor drivers in a ninth-place GT2 class finish in their 2009 Le Mans debut.
