People shouldn’t mistake the presents a pastor gives his wife for the presents a pastor gives. They are gifts from a husband and, as such, they can be as expensive as he can afford.
That’s the explanation a South Carolina pastor is offering after he’s come under heavy fire for buying a Lamborghini Urus to his wife, on their 8th wedding anniversary. For the record, pricing for the new SUV starts at $200,000, which is a whole lot of money for any regular Joe or Jane, let alone someone who should be focusing more on helping others than on helping himself.
The pastor in question is John Gray, leader of Relentless Church in Greenville, S.C. Apparently, he’s also a published author and has a reality show on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN channel, which is how he afforded the deposit to the Lambo, he says in a Facebook video meant to counter the controversy of the gift.
“It wasn’t a pastor that bought the car – it was a husband that bought the car. Get that in your spirit,” Gray says. “I’m a husband first. Don’t confuse what I do with who I am. What I do is I pastor God’s people. Who I am is a husband and a father, and I’ll do anything to honor them.”
“I have been patient my whole life for this moment. I’m 45. I’m supposed to wait till I’m 70 to live my best life? And my best life is seeing my wife happy,” he continues. He says the wife saw the car at an NBA all-star game and her eyes lit up, which is how he knew it would be the perfect present for her.
She believes so, too. She’s speaking up in defense of her husband, saying he would never use followers’ money to pay for anything, as he’s been accused of doing. As for how many good deeds Gray could have done with his money, she says they live for God, not for people. You know what that means.
Just for laughs, the wife got Gray an $8,000 Rolex for the anniversary. Cheapskate.
